RESEARCH and INNOVATION

The laboratories of the University Research Corridor are bustling with trailblazing research that saves lives, creates new products and prepares students for the emerging industries of the future.

Together, Wayne State, MSU and U-M account for 95 percent of all the academic research done in the state of Michigan—more than a billion dollars a year in all.

Over the last five years, URC research has produced more than 2,000 new discoveries and more than 630 patents. These are the ideas that will become the state’s next successful licenses and startup companies, and many of them would not have been possible in a private R&D environment.

Today, URC scientists are turning their attention to alternative energy, global climate concerns and technologies that might transform Michigan’s economy.

Most importantly, the URC’s laboratories produce tomorrow’s scientists. Beginning in their first year of undergraduate education, URC students can participate in cutting-edge laboratory research to lay a foundation for becoming the next generation of innovators.
