Grants aimed at entrepreneurs, commercializing university research

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Initiative for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIIE) has awarded nine more grants to public university researchers taimed at helping move innovative products toward commercial development. URC grants back two ‘revolutionary but feasible’ energy projects

The University Research Corridor, an alliance of Michigan’s three research universities, Thursday announced its first seed fund grants to provide startup support for two “revolutionary but feasible” energy projects. The seed investments will help launch two collaborations for efficient development of cheaper forms of electricity and fuel, one involving all three universities and the other involving MSU and U-M. Research brought $1.3 billion in NSF grants to Michigan since 2000

Michigan researchers brought more than $1.3 billion in National Science Foundation grants into the state between 2000 and 2008, more than their counterparts in bigger states like Florida and Ohio, according to a new NSF tally.The vast majority of the federal grants, an average of $147.5 million per year, were generated by Michigan’s University Research Corridor institutions, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University.
