Presidents Kevin Guskiewicz (MSU), Santa Ono (U-M) and Kimberly Andrews Espy (WSU) joined the Detroit Economic Club for a panel conversation to discuss how their universities are collaborating through the URC to lead groundbreaking research and attract and support companies across four key industry areas: sustainabilityartificial intelligenceadvanced manufacturing and life and health sciences.

The presidents emphasized the need for collaboration to retain graduates and attract businesses to Michigan. Through the URC, these universities can bolster the state’s economic future by developing talent pipelines and creating job opportunities.

We bring incredible talent, unique talent on each of our campuses with world-class faculty and researchers … and we’re going to reimagine what the URC will be in the future and how it will help to drive the economy of Michigan and the region here.

For all of you out there, whether you're a student or you're a business, for this to work, you need to feel completely comfortable. Don't be shy. There's a big welcome mat in front of the URC. We welcome you, want to partner with you.

[Michigan is] a place that is the past, present, and the future of innovation, and that comes down to people. Whether it’s our engineering workforce across the state, or our creative innovators who are thinking new thoughts. That’s what the research universities do together. They spawn that talent that creates big things for the future.
