“The Detroit Medical Center plays a valuable role in Detroit not only as a healthcare institution, but as a magnet for attracting and retaining top talent,” said DMC CEO Joe Mullany.
The DMC employs many talented individuals with degrees from high demands fields, including 1,100 URC university alumni, according to the DMC Human Resources department.
Attracting and retaining talent is important to the continuing resurgence of Detroit and critical for a healthy Michigan economy. Dr. Reecha Bahl, currently a pediatric opthamologist at the Kresge Eye Institute and Children’s Hospital of Michigan within the DMC, said her colleagues, doctors and researchers have come to work at DMC from all over the world.
Dr. Bahl came to DMC after a fellowship at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. She said the DMC has amazing opportunities for doctors and researchers and other highly-skilled, well-educated individuals.
“We serve a diverse population, in regards to everything from socioeconomic status to ethnicity and culture. We’re treating many different people and many types of illnesses and while we’re making a difference in people’s lives we’re also making a difference in Detroit and the state,” Bahl said.
