Techstars Mobility, driven by Detroit has partnered with with Ford Motor Co., Magna International, Verizon Telematics, Dana Corporation, McDonald’s, and Honda to provide 10 selected companies access to its business partners, up to $120,000 in funding and three months of engagement with its extensive mentor network. Techstars Mobility is looking for companies whose technology addresses the movement of people, objects, and services.
“It’s sort of like the perfect storm hitting Detroit,” said Ted Serbinski, Managing Director of Techstars Mobility. “There is this growing intersection between Detroit’s entrepreneurial resurgence and the automotive industry embracing the fact that the way people move around is changing. We want to play a major role in that intersection of future mobility.”
Techstars, which touts itself as the world’s No. 1 startup accelerator, has established similar accelerators in Austin, Boston, Boulder, Chicago, London, New York, and Seattle. One of the major reasons why Techstars opened an accelerator in Detroit stems largely from the region’s diverse talent pool.
